Introducing our Teachers
Michael Byrne
Michael Byrne is in his mid twenties and started teaching bridge when he left Manchester University. As a student he was a member of the England Under Junior Squad and regularly represented England at both Under 20 and Under 25 level, now he is a member of the England open team. In addition to playing for England Michael also runs the Under 20 Squad, and is responsible for coaching and captaining the young players of the next generation. He regularly travels to Holland, France, Ireland for junior competitions, and in Autumn 2008 he won a Silver Medal at the World Championships as non playing captain of the Under 20s team. As a keen member of Manchester County Bridge Association Michael has also served as Match secretary for several years, and regularly competes in the local league and knock out competitions. As a bridge teacher he has found his true vocation and enjoys teaching all levels of player, whether it be from total beginner through to good improver, and various phases in between.
Kevin Comrie
Kevin is a former Headteacher who began playing Bridge in 1961. He has played in various London and Manchester clubs as well as teaching beginners in evening classes.
Kevin is a county player who has enjoyed success in domestic and local tournaments. He is active in the Manchester County Bridge Association.
Kevin is keen to teach Bridge to those wishing to play the world's most popular card game. He believes the game should be fun. This clearly shows through in his lessons.
Bob Cooke
Bob has been playing Bridge since his university days and really enjoys the competition and social contact that the game offers.
In the mid eighties he started to play the game seriously and since has played in the higher divisions of the Manchester league.
He has played for the Manchester County team on many occasions.
In recent years Bob has been heavily involved in the administration
of MCBA acting as League Secretary and Membership Secretary. He has a great sense of humour and along with Kevin believes that Bridge should be an enjoyable experience.
